GPOY - in my latest interview for Huffington Post - Gay Voices, I spoke with Timothy Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church.. the God Hates Fags People… I’ve spoken with them and about them many times. This interview was really kind of an incredible conversation. I spent about an hour mentally preparing myself for their screaming shtick.. then spent over an hour on the phone with Phelps. I have to admit.. I laughed several times.. and so did he. Read the story for yourself HERE

Shame on Lowe’s (and the others) for not supporting all consumers.. and instead listening to the whining of a small number of bigots. This will be their undoing…

anonymous began a couple of years ago as a movement against scientology, and as i predicted, has evolved in to a peaceful international series of protesters and demonstrations that are growing by the day. some with a performance art quality and incredible eloquence. they are what we would sometimes refer to as “hackers” who have shut down fox news a few times, and crashed the computer systems of the gov’t of syria. incredible.

Update: and now US Marines have announced they will be offering protection from violent NYPD members.

Bolling’s misstatement came during a discussion on the network’s Glenn Beck replacement show, “The Five.” He and a panel—which included former Bush spokeswoman Dana Perino—were arguing about whether Bush had been guilty of “fear-mongering” during his tenure. Panelist Bob Beckel said that the former president had used fear-mongering around the non-existent weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. As he attempted to continue his point, Bolling cut him off and started to move on to the next segment.

“America was certainly safe between 2000 and 2008,” he said. “I don’t remember any attacks on American soil during that period of time.” Nobody on the panel challenged this comment. Weren’t these the same people who shared in the chorus of ‘Never forget!” just after the Twin Towers were struck and a third plane went down in a field in Pennsylvania? I know I made the comment about all of the verbal and prominent GOP members being particularly stupid when it comes to American History and Civics.. but this takes their retention and understanding of events back even further.

having just celebrated the anniversary of the legalization of interracial marriage, this infographic lays out the many re-definitions of marriage that we’ve adopted in the US.. and what we have left to achieve. 

We, my partner and I, became close friends with a neighbor couple. Now, I’m mechanically inclined and know how to fix up our home (plumbing, carpentry, electrical) and he’s, well, helpless. Over the years we have helped him repair his home.

One fall day outside, he mentioned (we know they were christian) that he would like us to attend some special wedding anniversary ceremony at their church but that “god does not like homosexuals and we cannot enter the church in a perpetual state of mortal sin”.

Alas all conversation and association ceased. His wife, who I strongly suspect does not feel this way desperately tried to make amends. We did not, nor do we hate or even dislike, just no time for that kind of thought. Fast forward the following spring and my partner gets bashed outside of a store. In the hospital for a few days, the teens are caught and guess what church they come from? Guess who the coach of the boy’s soccer team is?

His wife told me he was shocked to his core that this happened and to someone he knew. He never equated his “disapproval” with negative consequences. Though he never was a vocal opponent, he did not hide his concern. Now, he was confronted with the result of his hate, and to people he apparently actually liked were a victim.

Several months ago he came to my backyard workshop and apologized (a year later). He broke down explaining how wrong he was and how sorry his actions and inactions created an environment where his friend and neighbor could get harmed. To this day, he finds it difficult to look at my partner straight in the face over I guess guilt.

Yesterday, in an excited tone asked me to come over. As I sat in the living room with his wife as he made a phone call to a state senator demanding marriage equality. When he hung up, he looked at me and in his eyes I could read “I’m making amends the only way I know how”. I hugged him and went home.

I think we have our neighbors for life back. Just in time to fix his broken toilet.

bishop eddie long’s wife has finally left him, and he’s settled with the boys who he had lied to us all about and said he wasn’t having sex with… prior to the accusations that he was engaging in sexual relationships with them they were all receiving $40,000+ dollars from his church a year… but they didn’t work for the church. NOW he’s claiming that although he’s agreed to pay them a total of $25 million dollars.. he’s not admitting to having an affair. first of all.. preacher’s don’t make enough money to dish out $25 million.. he MUST be a crook, not a man of God.

Stop lying to your congregation Eddie Long. Stop lying to your family. Stop lying to yourself. If you’re gay.. you should just be gay.. because that’s FREE.
