i was too young to have met isherwood, but i’ve seen this portrait in don’s house. i never knew their story until years after we met. people seem to think his portraits are crap and i’ve even heard his work compared to leroy neiman (ugh). i’ve seen people compare him to greats. julian schnabel told me he loved din’s work. and i see a pseudo visual relationship.
don did a sketch of an older gentleman i was dating a couple years ago that i still have at my place in palm springs. not until recently did i ever really see any sort of signifigance between the subject and the artist. terry and i don’t talk much anymore aside from trading niceties at events, but i do love that drawing.
