when i read this in the news yesterday my initial thoughts amounted to: “just what the gay community needs, another self-loathing asshole”. then i actually finished the article wherein the former republican leader explains that he did this for himself and to further marriage equality on a national platform. this is basically career suicide for the guy. he’s really putting himself out there. did he oppose lgbt issues in the past? duh. he’s been one of our primary enemies.. until now. ken coming to terms with his own sexuality was clearly a difficult task.. and he has everything to lose.

of course it’s easy for us to be bitter since this battle for equality (for all americans.. not just fags) hasn’t been painless. however, at this point in the game we need more allies than enemies. it’s about time that we queers show the rest of the world that we are the better half and that we’re understanding and that we’ve got the capacity to love, forgive, and embrace all our supporters AND critics. because apparently there is a shortage of love and wisdom out there and we’ve got plenty to give.
